As their founder and Chair, Lewis Chinchen is delighted to announce that last month, Sheffield Young Conservatives were formed for members within the city aged 25 and under. Sheffield Young Conservatives will be formally linked to the Sheffield Federation and in addition to supporting the Federation wherever possible, the objective of the group will be to provide a forum for young members to socialise and discuss topical issues as well as campaign. Most importantly though, it is hoped this new youth wing of the Federation will make the Conservative Party in Sheffield as attractive as possible to young people.
Lewis has formulated a three-point plan for the coming year:
- Increase youth membership within Sheffield and encourage participation from that cohort
- Provide opportunities for Young Conservatives within Sheffield to voice opinions regarding policy and relay those to the Sheffield Federation and CCHQ
- Provide support to the Sheffield Federation for next year’s Council elections in order to get Conservative Councillors elected in Sheffield
Recently, Lewis took part in a Zoom meeting with Andrew Bowie MP (Vice-Chair of the Conservative Party) and other Young Conservatives from across the country to discuss issues such as campaigning, engaging young people and increasing youth influence within the party. Lewis hopes to engage more with Young Conservatives across the country to learn from their experiences and hear new ideas.
Lewis is planning on getting in touch with those members in Sheffield aged 25 and under over the coming weeks.
